Rescue MissionHomelessness arrives at The Mission's door with a variety of faces: the face of a man who has suddenly lost his job and no longer can afford a place to live; the face of a man who has had to leave his home due to difficulties in relationships with his wife or family; the face of a man who suffers the torment of mental illness; the face of a man who wrestles with the demons of alcohol or drug addiction; the face of a man who has been released from prison and has no place to go to start a new life. Whatever the reasons for his homeless condition, each man who arrives at The Mission is provided food, shelter, clothing, and, most importantly, the hope that he can have a better future. The goal for each resident is that he will one day be restored in his relationships to God, family and community. It is our goal that when men return to the community, they areĀ functioning at the highest level possible for them. This is done through a number of services and programs we provide, all built on the foundation of faith in Jesus Christ, and with the understanding that it is through Christ that men's lives are rebuilt and their future is restored. When men first arrive at The Mission they receive basic crisis services such as food, shelter, clothing and personal counseling to assess their needs. Shelter is provided in our Guest Dorm for up to four weeks. Many men seek employment or take care of social service, mental or physical health needs during this time. Some of our residents understand they need much more than crisis services if they are to be successful -- or even survive. The Overcomers' Restoration Program is designed to help men address problems with addictions, mental health, relationships, employment and lack of education. This program begins with an Intensive Phase which lasts six months. The Long-Term Phase often lasts an additional 6-12 months. The Transitional Housing Phase of the Program allows those who have graduated from the Intensive or Long Term Phases to continue to study in the Learning Center to further their education, to find employment in the community and to make the transition to their own housing arrangements in the community. Some men may be with us for as long as 18 months studying, working and preparing to live independently in a healthy, drug and alcohol free lifestyle. Our Community Meals Program offers meals to the public each day at 7:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., and 5:00 p.m.. There is no charge for the meals and anyone who is hungry is welcome! Three special dinners are offered to the community each year on Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. Anyone coming to The Mission for a hot meal or any man who stays for a night in the Guest Dorm or who chooses to stay and address his life problems in the Overcomers' Restoration Program, may be blessed by the Lord with a newfound spiritual and emotional health. |
