Purpose

The purpose of Charis House Practice is to work with the residents of Charis House to bring God’s healing and restoration to their lives. Our desire is to empower the residents that they may identify and utilize their God-given strengths, as they courageously and creatively live as the persons He made them to be. Our desire is to encourage them to develop and grow spiritually, emotionally, mentally and physically.

Our method is, with the assistance of the Lord Jesus Christ, to actively show love and support and expect high accountability from staff and residents.

What Happens in Our Home: Mission & Vision

Caring for homeless women and children is the mission of Charis House, Greek for “House of Grace.” We provide immediate relief from the danger, hunger, fear, and suffering associated with homelessness. But Charis House gives more than food, shelter, and warmth to those coming through our door. With the love of Christ and a safe family environment, we are able to minister to the heart of each woman and child.

Hope for a bright future is the goal of our life changing programs. Through participating in educational programs, the women learn valuable skills such as: anger management, parenting, proper nutrition, and how to deeply explore their spiritual life. The women also participate in daily devotions where they inspire one another to live each day to the fullest as they offer support during this time of daily life changes.

Assessing each woman’s needs is essential for guiding her on a journey to discovering her full potential. Through listening, observing, and diagnostic testing, we are able to identify the spiritual, emotional, educational, and physical needs of each woman. This knowledge provides the tools needed to shape a healthy and productive life.

Recovery from trauma, addiction, and self-defeating choices is the focus of our program. The staff is dedicated to creating a safe atmosphere which allows every woman to revisit and process past painful events. The women can then come to an understanding of the effects of the past and learn how to overcome them.

Independence and self-sufficiency are attainable goals through our ministry at Charis House. Working in partnership with our team of professional ministers and counselors, residents experience their own competence, newfound wisdom, and confidence in their abilities. Teaching the women how to make responsible choices and to take ownership for them is a crucial step in their becoming contributors of our community.

Success is our goal for the children of Charis House. Our children’s ministry is committed to stopping the generation al pattern of homelessness through helping the children to acquire the skills and emotional health they will need to be successful adults and parents. We focus on critical issues our children face. Every child receives emotional and school support so they may develop the positive self-esteem essential to their developmental growth.

We, together as one, choose to minister daily by the Lord’s strength – with authenticity, integrity, compassion, and grace for each other and all we serve.

Moving Forward: Bringing the Vision to Life

Plans are underway for the construction and relocation of a new Charis House. The new Charis House building will enable staff to expand their outreach into the community. The new and improved Charis House will house more women and children and enable more space to facilitate and environment more conducive to learning and promoting growth and encouragement among women.

The new building will have 78 beds (compared to the current housing capacity of 42 beds). Charis House will increase their housing capacity by 36 beds, almost double of what they can currently provide! The new building will be approximately 24,000 square feet. With updated facilities and more space, Charis House can move forward and strengthen their outreach in the community. However, Charis House cannot move forward alone. They need support and donations from people just like you.

Charis House fully operates on grants and private donations.  Charis House does not receive government funding of any kind, including local, state, or federal. Charis House does receive United Way funding and regularly applies for grants. It is private donations and funding from the local community, and people like you that keep Charis House doors open to serve the needs of our community.
